🏡 Keeping Vincent Clean and Safe: A Note on Nuisance Abatement

Dear Neighbors,

As the weather changes and we all spend more time outdoors, the City of Vincent wants to thank everyone who works hard to keep their homes and yards looking great. A clean town keeps our property values up and makes Vincent a wonderful place to live!

To keep our community safe, healthy, and beautiful, we want to share a quick reminder about our local Nuisance Abatement rules.

What is a "Nuisance"?

In short, a nuisance is anything on a property that causes a safety hazard, a health risk, or a major eyesore for neighbors. Some common examples include:

  • Tall Grass & Weeds: Lawns and weeds that grow past our city's height limit of eight inches as stated in Ordinance 2023-01.

  • Junk & Debris: Accumulations of trash, scrap metal, old appliances, or indoor furniture left outside.

  • Inoperable Vehicles: Cars, trucks, or trailers that are broken down, unlicensed, or abandoned on the property

What Happens If a Property Violates the Rules?

Our goal is always to work with residents, not against them. However, when a problem is reported or found, the City uses the following process:

  1. Written Notice: The property owner receives a simple, clear letter explaining the problem and exactly what needs to be fixed.

  2. Time to Fix It: The owner is given a specific deadline (usually a set number of days) to clean up the property.

  3. City Clean-Up: If the problem is not fixed by the deadline, the City will hire a contractor to clear the nuisance.

  4. The Bill: The property owner will be billed for the clean-up costs. Unpaid bills are added to property taxes.

How You Can Help

  • Take a Look Around: Walk around your property this week. Check for any tall grass, hidden junk, or items that need to be cleared away.

  • Help a Neighbor: If you have an elderly or disabled neighbor who might be struggling with yard work, consider offering a helping hand.

Thank you for doing your part to keep the City of Vincent a clean, safe, and proud community for all of us!
